Medina Once Again Recognized as a “Healthy City” by WHO

Medina Al-Munawwarah, one of the holiest cities in the Islamic world, has once again earned the prestigious title of a “Healthy City” by the World Health Organization (WHO). This recognition reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to enhancing public health and improving the quality of life for its residents and visitors.

🏅 WHO Certification Based on 80 Global Health Standards

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Medina achieved this status after successfully meeting 80 health criteria set by WHO. These standards evaluate infrastructure, public services, environmental sustainability, community engagement, and health care access.

🏙️ Other Saudi Cities Also Achieve Healthy City Status

In addition to Medina, 14 other Saudi cities — including Taif, Tabuk, and Diriyah — were also recognized as healthy cities, underscoring the Kingdom’s nation-wide progress in health and urban development.

📜 Official WHO Certification Ceremony

Prince Salman bin Sultan, the Governor of Medina, officially received the WHO certificate from the Saudi Minister of Health, marking this global endorsement of the city’s efforts toward sustainable urban health planning.

This is not the first time Medina has been honored. The city was previously awarded the “Healthy City” title for the first time in 2019.

💬 A Vision for Quality Living and Global Excellence

Speaking at the ceremony, Prince Salman bin Sultan stated:

“Regaining the Healthy City status reflects the leadership’s strong commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens and residents. Medina’s continuous transformation positions it as a leading development model both regionally and globally.”
