PIA Prepares to Resume Flights to the U.S. and UK

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is gearing up to resume flights to the United States (U.S.) and the United Kingdom (UK), marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s aviation sector.

PIA Flights to the U.S.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to settle financial obligations. Payments are expected soon, and an FAA delegation will visit Pakistan by February or March. Once reclassified to “Category One” status, PIA can restart direct U.S. flights, which were suspended in 2017.

PIA Flights to the UK

Pakistan is optimistic about resuming UK operations in March 2024. A UK Department for Transport (DfT) delegation is scheduled to visit Pakistan next month, following a December evaluation and a January official visit to the UK.

Potential Impact

PIA previously operated 21 weekly flights to the UK and six to the U.S. Restoring these routes could significantly boost revenue for the national airline and improve connectivity for passengers.
